Synopsis:
The young Duke Lionello Shandwell (Mark Damon) morbidly loves his sister Barbara (Claudia Gravy), and when he learns Barbara is married Giordano, a middle-age man, his jealousy becomes explosive, trying to separate the consorts in every way. In the meantime some mysterious crimes are followed (victims are all women, killed with a three-points blade), so the whole village is stunned. Blood's ceremonies, insane love and incestuous relationships are the dominant elements in this film. As for its artistic value, Byleth still manages to surprise, since it represents the first genre film convinced from a perfectly pure movie-buff-like point of view, besides the incestuous thematic had not been documented on this way in an Italian horror movie._

Euro trash gem with a very stylish mise-en-scene by Leopoldo Savona, who brings some good giallo vibe to the table and with a cool cast on his hands: Mark Damon, Claudia Gravy, Aldo Bufi Landi, Franco Jamonte. A mythical incestous story with beautiful babes, some bloody scenes with sexy nudity, gorgeous cinematography, locations and framing work, a gloved serial killer with a 3 point blade weapon (!), and above average acting in this -not very fast paced- artsy horror-sex italian effort with all that beautiful flair that only these 70s euro gems had. Have a peep.

CAN sex be this unsexy? This could not be a more flacid, cringeworthy exploration of promiscuity. "The Big Swap" refers to wife or partner swapping. A group of five late-Thirty-early-Fortysomething transatlantic couples, who, we are told in the voice-over narrative, are the best of friends ("We were known as the crowd...") decide one night to "have a little fun": a big swap. Of course, this creates problems, frictions and doubts among the different characters, which worsen the more they meet for their semi-drunken romps (they decide to make a habit of it).

This might have been a fine idea if the characters weren't so cardboard. Despite the fact that at any opportunity somebody is flinging their clothes off for the camera - the full frontals abound - the characters are never properly fleshed out. We are meant to presume that this group of people has something special bond between them. But telling us what to think is not good enough. Director-writer Niall Johnson needs to show us.

The unwieldy size of the cast doesn't allow much time for characterisation. But even with fewer characters it is unlikely that this would have been any the less painful to watch, so embarrassing is the script at times and so seriously half-hearted are the performances.

This lush anthology of erotic tales was filmed in four countries (Iran, Nepal, Yemen, and Eritrea) over a period of more than two years. Completing the literary cycle begun by Pier Pasolini in Il Decamerone and I Racconti di Canterbury, this one is perhaps the most controversial of the lot, engendering reactions from admiration to dismissal. The connecting story deals with Mur el-Din (Franco Merli), a prince searching for his slave girl lover, Zumurrud (Ines Pellegrini), who has been kidnapped, only to disguise herself as a man, take a wife, and become ruler of a great city. Mur el-Din's quest carries him to the ends of his known world, where he listens to several stories of carnality and betrayal.
